Many African American Theologians argue that the Christian Black Church should embrace the image of Jesus as a Black African. Some argue that the color of Jesus is irrelevant to the Christian spiritual life of Black people and is counterproductive for spiritual growth. Those in support of a Black Jesus concept argue from two reference points; 1. Scripturally and 2. Issues relating to psychological imagery. Those opposed to the Black Jesus concept reference their position from 1. Strict Christian fundamentalism and 2. Ideas of the “old Black Christian church. A panel composed of both viewpoints will discuss their thoughts and research on this topic.
