Amazing Gary Grainger is pulling double time on Tuesday, 11/4! Not only is he joining us during the first hour of the show, but he has to RUN after 30 minutes to his sound check at Ram's Head in Annapolis. That's where he takes the stage with Acoustic Alchemy on Tuesday night! Whew!
Gary is no stranger to juggling multiple plates. Our "Hometown Hero" (another Baltimore Baby!) has been doing same for years. From a family of six, Dad gave mandatory piano lessons to ALL. One day, Mr. Grainger brought an old bass home and Gary seized it :) Self-taught as a teen, he also experimented with sousaphone and tuba in high school. Brothers Glenn and Greg were gravitating to music, so Gary chose a similar path. As a member of "Pockets", he toured as the opening act for Earth, Wind & Fire. That segued into getting session work on the East Coast. From 1986 to 1992, Gary was in John Scofield's band. After that, he and fellow Baltimorean, Dennis Chambers, hooked up for Graffiti. 1993 was a pivotal year - he launched a recording studio with brother Greg that booked some high profile clients. AND he worked with the Bill Clinton Inaugural Ball's Music Director, George Duke. You that President Clinton took to the stage with his sax - Gary was there! Between his own gigs as leader, honoring E,W & F with a tribute band and Alchemy, our Bass Master is BUSY! Many of us are looking forward to a chat :)
Matthew Shell is back in the second hour of the show! Special circumstances: His "My Baby", in honor of his beautiful wife! We're going to hear TWO takes - one is the original and the other is a Jazz re-mix. Matt might be bringing the artists who are breathing life into his love song, so we're prepping for a full house! Join us for F-U-N!
