Our guest this morning is the Honorable Mayor Steve Aspel of Redondo Beach.
Steve was born in Inglewood and grew up in Westchester. In 1976, he moved to Redondo Beach and has been living there ever since. Steve lived in North Redondo for 16 years, 6 in District 3 and 10 years in District 5 before settling in District 1. After living in different parts of the city he realize that each area is unique and special, but every neighborhood is still Redondo and collectively makes the city the beautiful place it is. In 1990, he married Pam, his best friend from high school. Pam had 2 kids, Kristen and Pat, from a previous relationship and soon after they were married they had two additional children, Catie and Brett. All 4 of their children attended Redondo Beach Schools, played AYSO, Little League and Softball. Pam and Steve have been very involved in the community as AYSO volunteers, board members, coaches and referees for over 20 years. Steve served as a Planning Commissioner from 2001 to 2005. He served as the District 1 Council Member from 2005 through 2013 when he ran for Mayor and won the election in 2014.
This morning, we’re going to hear some of what the Mayor will focus on during the State of the City Address, which will take place on Tuesday, February 16 at the Crowne Plaza Redondo Beach & Marina Hotel at 7 a.m.
