The passage from clan to monolingual tribe, i.e., to ethnic group, to nationality, is a consequence of clan exogamy; biological and material reasons, the nature of which is still being discussed by specialists, very early led archaic society to practice  the prohibition of incest, which marked the starting point of civilization.  Clan endogamy being prohibited, several neighboring class contracted marriage ties that with time became bonds of kinship by alliance.  All these clans that occupied the same territory ended up speaking the same language even if their idioms were originally different.  The number of clans that can gather together, to form a more or less powerful tribe does not follow any rule and depends, at the most on the fertility and extent of the land occupied by the group.
