Groundhog Day has been in existence in the US since the early 1800’s. February 2nd also marked an important date for farmers who celebrated Candlemas Day, which marked the midpoint of winter, halfway between the shortest day and the spring equinox. In olden times during the middle of winter farmers used it to determine whether they would have enough crops to feed their stock before winter was over.
It is ironic that today we’re talking on Groundhog day, regardless of whether he saw his shadow or not. So maybe we should be asking the question ourselves: are we going back into hibernation or is spring around the corner. We can play this analogy out as it relates to how we react in our own careers these days.
